Big and Beefy Four Foot Rocky Mountain River Float Tube, Tapered at one end
The Twist Fishing Inflatable Kayak from Innova is a great craft to paddle downstream or across a lake to hit your fave fishing hole. It is essentially a shorter, bare exterior version of the discontinued Innova Solar solo (which looked like a ten foot long version of the two person Solar 410c found in our Tandem Touring Ik section). Innova's Twist I is a litepack series model, with no rubber coating on the outside, only the inside surface. There is a thin layer of teflon outside to help shed water, and for abrasion resistance. The weight is a very hike-able 16 pounds. Innova's other two fully coated solo models, the Helios and Safari, weight about 25 & 27 pounds by compare. The width of the Twist is closer to 29", rather than the 31" figure given in Innova's literature. The overall length is 8'5", quite short yet the tiny Twist can accommodate a very tall pilot up to about 6'3" with absolutely no problem. This is due to the backrest being mounted pretty far aft. The side tubes are a bit over 8" and the inside width is 13". Twist's do come with a removable, bolt-less tracking fin.
The strongest feature of this Fishing Inflatable Kayak is it's unbelievably small packed size, not to mention the very low weight. For backpackers who want something that can easily be carried into a mountain lake or gentle stream, the Twist, a quality foot pump, and the paddle add up to no more than 22 - 23 pounds, allowing leeway for food and drink too. We would suggest using the Twist mostly for fresh water. Tim from Innova has an old Twist at his shop that's seen a lot of salt water use with little signs of harm, even after being uncleaned for most of a decade. Despite this we're still of the opinion that salt crust is never a good thing to leave on inflatables. Or cars. Or a lot of other items.
One thing you need to do with a Twist Fishing Inflatable Kayak, and this also applies to the Innova Swings, is that these boats must be boarded from a dock or stepped into after you are in 10" to 12" of water. They cannot be scooted from dry land into the water while you are sitting in them, and they should not be run up onto shore either. This is something you cannot get by with on any boat, Innova or otherwise, that uses material that is bare fabric on the outside. If you do, the resulting abrasion will ensure that the underside of the bow & stern will wear through very quickly. It's not great for any boat, but these cannot be dragged around on dry land or shores.
There is a three-stepped inflatable footrest that you can remove if you wish. The inflatable backrest is part of the boat and does not come out. This backrest is fairly comfortable as long as you get it fully inflated. We normally carry the Twist in red-orange, but the camo pattern shown is also available. Solo and tandem Twists come with a nylon stuff sack and basic patch kit, valve adapter, and the removable zitel tracking fin.
Please note that any accessories purchased with your Fishing Inflatable Kayak are 10% off, and also note that our shopping cart as yet does NOT reflect these discounts - it will show a higher total so we will adjust the bottom line before ringing the transaction through. If for any reason we manage to forget, we will enclose a refund check for the difference inside the box with your receipt.
Maxxon P10 Fly Fishing Cat pontoon tubes are 10' long, 18.5" around, and weigh 40 pounds per pair. The price is for tubes only - frames & oars sold separately, and we usually have the gray and blue colors. Call 925-820-2628 if you want to check stock. The 10' is the smaller one in the foreground of the picture, but there is no longer a circumference seam at the bow & stern where the nose turns up. In other words, the current version is "seamless" except for the lengthwise joint that runs along the bottom.
The P-10's from Maxxon are an ideal starting point for those who want a very heavy duty little rig for river fishing. Anglers on day trips, alone or set up with a friend, will enjoy the responsive way these relatively large diameter tubes slip in and out of eddies. And they will also accommodate solo rowers with a lot of gear & tackle. Typical fishing frames for the P10's would yield an overall width of about 4'10" to 5'2", and would use 7' or 7-1/2' oars.
Maxxon Fly Fishing Cat Cataraft tubes are a beefy and economical alternative to the various American made brands, though they are a glued pvc product rather than utilizing welded seams. From the first year we handled Maxxons, we've sold them with the buyer-beware caveat that eventually all things pvc & glued will come apart. The last fifteen years though have shown that despite the theoretical shortcomings, Maxxon rafts and Fly Fishing Cat tubes really do hold up a long time. "Long time" meaning typically eleven or twelve years in hot climates and up to fifteen in cooler locales. So for the price, this seems to indicate a very, very good value. The downside is that someday in the next couple decades they will have to go into a landfill, whereas an equivalent product from AIRE - which is welded and bladderized - can go 35 years or more with one change of bladders. For more info about the potential pitfalls of glue & pvc see the F.A.Q. section of our site. There is also more information under the description for the Maxxon 14' or 16' sizes
All Maxxon Fly Fishing Cat tubes we stock feature use an incredibly tough 2200 X 3100 denier polyester base fabric, so they are as close to rip-proof as you are going to get at any price, and they inflate to roughly the same stiffness as the AIRE cataraft tubes. All sizes except the special-order nine footers have two chambers per tube, and all but the nine's have four large D-ring patches per side (sixteen for a pair of tubes) and black 1100 denier frame and bottom chafers that average 11" wide. The P-10's are popular with the fishing crowd and also make an astoundingly good solo whitewater rig with a custom rowing frame & 7'6" oars (typical dimensions of that frame being 45" wide and 60" from front to back). In fact, for one person in technical class V water, you would be hard pressed to come up with a better pair of tubes. This is a different model and much smaller. Frame NOT included. Fishing Pole NOT included, LOL!

NRS Pike Fly Fishing Inflatable Kayak get to all the places you couldn't before! Tons of space for tackle, and camp gear if you do overnight fishing trips. The rigid inflatable floor even allows you to kneel while casting if you wish, or you can step in & out of it easily to cast from shore.
This kayak is as long as most tandems - 12'6" - but is designed to give a solo angler plenty of space. It can accommodate a child too for tandem fishing. The Pike is 38" wide with 11" side tubes. The floor is 4" thick drop-stitch material that inflates flat like an ironing board, and this floor pad can achieve very rigid pressure. Running any rapids is not really a problem in the Pike, though it's bow and stern do not have the rocker (lift) of most true whitewater inflatables. The rise is about 3".
The NRS Pike Fly Fishing Inflatable Kayak is a self bailing kayak, but you should note that if you do plan on running somewhat continuous rapids in it, the bail holes are deliberately very minimal. The Pike will not empty itself fast, nor is it ideal if an already large adult tries to stuff a second big person in front. 330 pounds is a reasonable payload limit.
There are an amazing 32 little stainless D-ring attachments on the Pike, and lift handles at each end. It features a pair of removable skegs (one for deeper water, and a smaller one for the shallows), Leafield valves on the three chamber, an adjustable seat, and a nylon carry bag. There are three attachment mounts for Scotty brand fly rod holders, a tackle bag, and bungie in the bow for securing small coolers, drybags, or a tackle box.
All in all the Pike Fly Fishing Inflatable Kayak is a lot of kayak for under a thousand dollars. It carries a three year warranty and is made in China. Hunter green only.
Enjoy all the features of the best fishing kayaks in a compact, convenient package with the NRS Pike Fishing IK. Throw it in your rig, head to the water, air it up and go after that trophy. This stable, top-quality inflatable kayak features a rigid, self-bailing floor, plus all the bells and whistles serious anglers demand. Heavy-duty, abrasion-resistant PVC construction for long-lasting durability. The drop-stitch PVC floor insert inflates to exceptionally high pressure, giving you a stable, flat, rigid platform for sight fishing. Its also removable for easy cleaning or repair. Two removable skegs allow you to choose the one that is better for your tracking needs. The comfortable collapsible seat adjusts to fit, and you can position it where you like it best in the boat. 32 stainless steel D-rings let you rig your boat exactly how you like it. The Easy Access Tackle Bag (included), with it's parallel YKK® zippers is easy to use, keeping your gear securely at hand. Bungee lacing in the bow provides handy spot to lash down a small cooler, a tackle box, or a dry bag. Two nylon webbing daisy chains in the stern provide attachment points for clipping in those items you want close at hand. Three Scotty Mount pads let you attach Scotty accessories such as rod holders and a fish finder mount. Two carry handles make the Pike IK easy to carry or drag to and from the water. Top-quality Leafield C7 valves ensure easy, reliable inflation and deflation. The included carry bag makes it super easy to toss your boat in your trunk or sling it over your shoulder for easy transportation.
