AIRE Frodo Medium 2.2 Cu. Foot Drybag with zipper
Overview
Going forward we may or may not be carrying the Frodos. In many cases our Ortlieb Dry Duffles will serve the same purpose, and they are European made with far better warranties. In the case of this medium size Frodo, the equivalent in volume for an Ortlieb would be the 60 liter duffle. Frodos do have four tie downs that help attach them to rowing frames, whereas Ortliebs lack them, but there are features like backpack straps that are found on most of the Ortlieb models that are not on the Frodo. For inflatable kayak use, we have found the Ortliebs are quite easy to tie into the stern or bow of any i.k. that has D-rings, or the cargo loops found in AIRE & tributary kayaks. Info on the Frodos follows-
The Frodo drybag does come in a larger size (3.6 cubic feet) which runs $329, but we don't currently have it listed as a separate item in this section of our site. The Medium is of a volume that will fit into the back of most inflatable kayaks, and it will tie down easily into any AIRE brand model (other than the Force) since those kayaks come with lots of tie down loops.
The drysuit zippers used on the Frodo are more convenient than having to roll down a four-strap standard bag, but if you use these around salt water it is mandatory that you hose the zippers off after use. Well, unless you want to purchase a new one every two years....
The 2.2 cubic foot Frodo is roughly 16" wide, 26" long, and about 10" tall. AIRE gives somewhat larger dimensions for some reason, but this is what we've measured. The zipper runs full length and a bit down the sides. In other words it opens plenty wide to get all your gear in. The Frodo's have carry handles of course, and four tie down points on the bottom.
All are constructed of PVC fabric and close with a TiZip™ waterproof zipper.
