WRSI Current Kayak Helmet
Overview
Beefy & high quality!
Black or dark blue only.
Beefy & high quality! These are some older vintage WRSI helmets at about half of the surrent retail price. They do require some time - typically about 20 to 25 minutes - to be adjusted via the foam insert sets & harness, to achieve a good fit. They are sized for medium to large heads. They are a bit too big for little kids & too small for those with really XL to XXL size noggins. If your head is really large it is always best to purchase helmets from a retailer where you can try them on.
This universal model comes with three sets of foam pads for front, back and the sides so you can achieve a proper fit to your noggin. It is designed to not roll around on your head at all once the foam and plastic tab harness is adjusted correctly. The webbing of the harness runs all through the shell to ensure this; in fact, the WRSI was engineered in the aftermath of a fatal river accident. A kayaker died due to head injuries suffered when a lower quality helmet rolled back on his head, exposing his temples and forehead to underwater rocks. It may be the only helmet on the market to run through the gauntlet of both an engineering school and extensive field testing. The Lexan blend shell is also the strongest body we've seen since Seda quit making their fiberglass models decades ago.
These come in dark blue and black only. It has a small built-in "forehead overhang", not quite jutting outward enough to call it a visor but enough to keep noonday sun out of your peepers. This helmet may be overkill for many inflatable kayakers, but if you do a lot of class IV and V it's worth looking into. For hardshellers who endeavor to keep moving up through the river difficulty scale, or those who run a lot of shallow streams, this small investment is well worth it. There are a number of import helmets on the market that run way over $100 that are not nearly as good in any way.
