For bigger paddlers and folks who don't like the idea of possibly getting wet in a self bailing model, this newer model from Star Inflatables offers the same gear storage space as the AIRE Tributary Sawtooth, but with a rigid drop-stitch inflatable floor. The hull design is more like the AIRE Superlynx with a foot added on, and though we haven't paddled one yet, the hull speed should be similar. With the larger wetter surface area and greater width, you should not expect this to have the same type of high performance that you get with the Sawtooth model. Most of these in this size and width range will make about 3.4 to 3.7 mph on smooth flat water.
The Paragon is 3' wide and weighs 59 pounds, which makes carry on air travel not an option. Part of the reason it is so heavy is that NRS / Star is using beefy 44 ounce per yard raft weight material for the hull. Although durable, this seems to be overkill for something intended more for open water rather than running rapids. It comes in red or bright green, and has 10" side tubes with a depth of about 6-1/2". The factory warranty is three years, and though this may not compare to the decade of coverage you get with a SuperLynx, neither does the price at just a bit over half.
There are inserts for the bow and stern that give it a keeled shape to help cut through the water, and it has a removable skeg and two removable stadium-style seats. Additionally, Star put in two sets of adjustable footbraces. We know people appreciate these, but along with the high weight, these also mean the boat cannot be rolled very compactly, so again, this boat should not be considered for anyone doing air travel with their kayak. The valves are Leafields, and it also comes with a small pump and carry bag.
