RMR-PaddleCat-PC-120
Overview
The RMR PhatCat PC-120 is Rocky Mountain Raft’s value priced frameless paddle cat. For less than the cost of many tandem inflatable kayaks or mini-rafts, the RMR PaddleCat offers a lightweight option for both big water and steep creeks. The 23” main tubes are larger than most of the Shredder knock-offs on the market, and the 59 pound weight is less than or equal to most of them.
RMR PhatCat PC-120 Frameless Cataraft Specifications
The non-inflatable floor is raised up 9” from the bottom of the side main tubes, leaving you a generous depth of 14” if you need to stow a drybag or two. This deep interior area also means your seating position is more comfortable compared to the “high-knee'd” way you sit in many self bailing rafts with thick inflatable floors. The PhatCat also drafts less water with its large tubes compared to almost all other paddle cats. This is an important detail since it means you will hang up less on sub-surface rocks.
The width of the Rocky PhatCat paddle cat is 5’6”, and the length is 11’9” for fast pivoting. Cockpit dimensions are 22” wide by 3’ long. The material is the same beefy 2000 denier fabric that RMR uses on all their river rafts, however the PhatCat is actually built like Rocky Mountain's cataraft tubes, with a much thicker piece welded into the bottom quarter of the tubes. This portion is half again as thick as the upper parts of the tubes. There are two large D-rings on each side along with four smaller ones on the thwarts, but a total of 20 D's altogether which is super generous for a small cat. If you wish to make a custom frame for the PaddleCat, the top center to center width is 45”, so the max frame should not be more than 4’ wide. You can have a frame that is up to 5-1/2' long however. It’s intended primarily for paddling, so there are no frame chafers.
Air Chambers on RMR PaddleCat PC-120 Frameless Cataraft
Rocky designed the PhatCat bulkhead locations to maximize not only resistance to tacoing, but also to integrate the thwarts as part of the main chambers. This works far better with any Shredder-type cat than trying to make the two little thwarts separate air chambers.
This boat comes with two footcones factory installed just behind the front thwart, though some people might want one further back if they wish to sit more staggered. There is a little front splash deck like the original Shredder, but it is removable and held on with cam straps. It could be used to stow one or two small drybags, and Linc from Rocky Mountain even has his dog ride there on calm sections. The warranty is five years for private boaters. Call us to see what colors we have. We try to keep blue, waterfall (turquoise), and either orange or lime in stock.
