Update: As of May 2025 Maxxon is cleaned out on their ten foot pontoons, and it does not look like there will be more any time soon. Maybe in the late summer or fall, or mayeb not until next year. We are almost certain the pricing will be increasing when they are available again, and this pertains to all sizes once the tariffs kick in.
We measured one of the new welded versions of the Maxxon XPT-10 tubes, to double check some of the specs. The diameter is 18.5” as it has always been. The only seam is on the bottom of the boat, and though it has to run the entire 10' length of the tube, it is almost completely covered by the 11” wide bottom chafer – all but the last six inches at each end. This single-seam design allows for a nice smooth continuous curve at the bow & stern.
The top rowing frame chafer is also 11” wide, and it is 6'3” long. The bow and stern rise is mild, maybe 3” (less than shown in the two-tube image above). The D-rings are spaced 22.5” apart, for a total span among the four of about 68” if you measure from the center of each patch. These D-ring patches are smaller than what is found on the larger cat tubes and Maxxon's full size rafts, but they are still heavy duty.
A pair of the XPT-10's weigh under 32 pounds, and the current 1100 denier pvc material Maxxon is using is very pliable, so if you do break your pontoon boat down these will roll up quite small. A foot pump is included with each set.
Maxxon Cataraft tubes are a beefy and economical alternative to the various American made brands, and in the ten and twelve foot lengths they are really one of the very few options. Though the D-rings are still glued to the tubes, the air holding functionality of the new Maxxon products should run about 25 years. For the price, this is a very good value indeed. There is also more information under the description for the Maxxon 14' or 16' sizes.
Maxxon tubes inflate almost as rigid as the AIRE catarafts and all sizes except the special-order nine footers have two chambers & eight D's per tube. The P-10's are popular with the fishing crowd but also make an astoundingly good solo whitewater rig with a custom rowing frame & 7'6" oars (typical dimensions of that frame being 45" wide and 60" from front to back). In fact, for one person in technical class V water, you would be hard pressed to come up with a better pair of tubes.
UPS to and lower 48 State address is included, and delivery runs between two and six business days depending how far east you are.
